Pixel Art - Yes or No?

For this gaming assignment it has been recommended that we choose pixel art as our style for our characters and backgrounds. Simply because it is the fastest and easiest way to produce the different images used in your games. I originally was going to do pixel art, even though it is not a style that I've personally tried before. But after designing my character I realised there was a problem.

My characters silhouette is elongated and spindly. It's meant to look lanky and move floppily like a rag doll when animated during gameplay. Most pixel art that I've seen is very 'compressed' looking, it is short, squat and compact, none of which describe my characters silhouette very well.

After discussing with my game design teacher, Britta, we decided that pixel art would not benefit my character or game style and that I should use my pre-existing style of hand drawn digital art. But due to the level of detail I have managed to cram into my design (even though I tried to restrain myself in the costume design haha). I've decided a more manageable way of drawing/ displaying my character in the game is through silhouette (re-drawing the full character design would kill me).

I'd already planned to set my game during early evening anyway, so it's not too much of a leap to have it dark. I will need to research for any pre-existing games which have successfully used the silhouette style for their game characters and environments to see whether it's the right style for me.
