The values we could explore for this game assignment were:
Diversity, security, safety, justice, creativity and expression, inclusion, cooperation, equality, sharing, privacy, trust, gender equality, authorship, environmentalism, liberty.
I decided to choose justice.
My character, Jack Nimble, was raised in the streets. Owning nothing and having no home or family to help him. He had to steal to survive. Once he was taken in by the old master mask maker, he experienced what it was like to live outside of poverty and to have someone looking out for him and his well being.
Having a strong sense of justice lead Jack to noticing the political systems in place in renaissance Venice that lead to such a strong gap between the rich and the poor, and he decided to do something about it. By stealing from the rich who live in excess and opulence, and giving back to those in need, Jack is trying to bring balance back to his city. There is no fairness is a select few having everything while the rest get by on nothing. He follows much the same principle as characters such as Robin Hood, doing what is right in a time period and environment where in doing so could get you killed. I wanted this game to emphasise on the value of justice, and taking justice into your own hands to do what you know is right, even if it is hard.
